For today I decided to take another shot at drawing a character from a television show. It’s not the same character as last time but I think this one may be a little bit more recognizable. What do you think? Anyone want to take a shot at guessing who he might be? The other benefit to drawing characters and celebrities occasionally is getting the opportunity to gauge how recognizable your sketches are. The last one definitely wasn’t at all. This one at least passed the husband test. I’m not quite willing to call that progress since they’re so different but it’s something.
I’m not sure I’m happy with the shading on this one. I’ve been experimenting with different things and I’m just not sure how I feel about this one. Any feedback would be appreciated. I think it looks pretty strange having the face so white while the clothes are so dark. I’m just not sure whether the solution would have been to have more white in the clothing or more shading on the face. I suppose I’ll just have to experiment some more.
I like how the shadows make him look eerie. 🙂 I’m not so great at recognizing faces. I joke that those photos they show of missing people or criminals are totally lost on me because I’d never recognize them in person.

Lol, yes, I think the shading made him look far more eerie than I intended. It’s an interesting look though.
Me, I think I’m okay at recognizing faces but terrible at placing them.

LOL! Yeah, placing faces is hard, too. More than once, I’ve run into people somewhere and said to each other, “I know you from somewhere, don’t I?” 😀

I remember when I was a kid I once spent a whole day trying to figure out where I knew a random girl I ran into in the playground from.

Hahaha! I can totally relate to that. 😀

I’m sure I recognise him but can’t come up with a name. Make sure you tell us once everyone’s had a chance to guess!

The character is Rodney McKay from Stargate: Atlantis. The actor for him is David Hewlett. It seems like no one other than my husband was able to guess this one. Maybe I just don’t have too many Stargate fans among my followers though …

Ah, no, I don’t know him. I thought perhaps it was John Nobel as Dr Bishop in Fringe

Yeah, a few people have guessed that. I didn’t realize until afterwards how much it looks like Walter Bishop.

Don’t have a TV, so can’t help with identity. The shadows are definitely spooky…something has surprised him! (K.)

😀 Yes, he’s definitely surprised. Seems like no one was able to guess who he is so your lack of television didn’t put you at much of a disadvantage.

He looks like a cartoon strip villain…very cool!!

Thanks 🙂 He’s not actually a villain but I suppose those shadows do make him look rather villainous.

That’s actually a really great guess. He’s actually supposed to be Rodney McKay from Stargate: Atlantis but now that you mention it he does look quite a bit like Walter Bishop too. I never would have thought that those two looked at all alike until now. Thanks for guessing :).

Fred? Munster? My memory is bad, but this is from way way back on TV? I think it’s a great drawing!

Lol, no. He’s not actually supposed to be that scary looking. That’s just an unfortunate effect of my shading choice for this sketch.
He’s supposed to be Rodney McKay from Stargate: Atlantis. It’s not a very old TV show at all. No one else was able to guess it either though.

Oh I don’t know him. Look up Fred Munster!

Yeah, I did. It’s not exactly what I was going for with this one but the shading definitely gives that effect.
