Day 365: Yatta!

YattaI did it! Today is New Year’s Eve. I have officially done a minimum of one sketch a day every single day of 2015. It wasn’t always easy. I can’t honestly say that I completed a sketch every single calendar day or within 24 hours of the last sketch. What I can say however is that between waking up in the morning and going to bed at night for every single day of 2015 I drew and uploaded a sketch onto this blog. There were at least a couple of occasions where the sun had actually risen on the next day by the time I got the picture posted. I still got it done before going to bed though, even if my sleeping habits were somewhat questionable at times. So I am counting it as a success over all. I actually completed at least one of my New Year’s resolutions for 2015! Yay! Let’s not talk about any other resolutions I may or may not have made, particularly as relates to sleeping. Day 364: Timey Wimey Portrait

ListenThe year is almost over now.  It’s hard to believe that 2015 is already coming to an end.  It doesn’t really feel like it’s been a whole year yet.  I decided to do one final portrait for the year.  This is another celebrity portrait so see if you can guess who it is.  It’s been a while since I did one of these.  I like drawing portraits of people.  They’re still quite challenging for me but I think it’s good practice.  Continue reading

Day 362: An Octopus and an Ear

An EarI went to see a late night movie today.  I really should have known that was a bad idea.  Maybe I did but it was the last week for the newest Bond movie so against my better judgement I went to see it anyway.  The movie itself wasn’t too bad.  I am just so incredibly tired after seeing it.  That whole sleeping thing I was supposed to be doing during my time off still isn’t really happening.

Anyway, given my state of complete and utter exhaustion I decided to go for some relatively simple sketches again today.  For whatever reason I picked an ear.  Continue reading

Day 361: The Last Sunday Hand Sketch of the Year

Hand Number 52I suppose this must be my 52nd Sunday hand sketch of the year.  As far as I can remember at least I don’t think I’ve missed a single Sunday hand sketch.  It’s hard to believe that it’s been so long already though.  So for my last hand sketch of the year my husband decided to act as a hand model again.  I think he really just wanted to encourage me to actually get sketching but it was still much appreciated.  It’s always nice when I don’t have to try to come up with a new hand pose.  After 52 weeks I’m afraid it was starting to get rather repetitive. Continue reading

Day 360: All of the Boxing Day Boxes

Empty Boxes and Christmas WrappingHow I managed to build up even more of a sleep debt during my holiday I may never understand.  Actually catching up on sleep seemed like a bit of a pipe dream of course.  Still, even I didn’t expect to get even less sleep and make things worse.  I suppose I’ve still got one more week to turn this thing around though so I’d better make the most of it.

Anyway, I went for another themed sketch for today.  At least that’s my excuse for just drawing a bunch of simple shapes.  They’re boxes for boxing day.  It’s a topical sketch.  It’s also a great reason to draw a picture of a pile of garbage.  Anything goes at Christmas time.  Continue reading

Day 359: A Christmas Selfie

A Christmas SelfieMerry Christmas to everyone who celebrates it!  It’s been a very long day for me but a good one.  Today’s sketch is of me on Christmas morning.  It’s the 25th of the month today and as far as I remember that makes it #SelfieArt Day so here’s my Christmas selfie.  It’s actually the first sketch I’ve done of myself that I’m not completely unhappy with.  I’m not entirely convinced that it actually looks like me but still … I think I’m making some kind of progress here. Continue reading

Day 358: Celebrating Christmas Eve with Mr. Mannequin

Mr. Mannequin's Christmas Eve CelebrationWell it may be Christmas Eve but it is still a Thursday!  That makes it Figure Drawing Thursday and I wouldn’t want to stand up poor old Mr. Mannequin on Christmas Eve.  That would just be cruel.  So after finally finishing a round of Christmas baking that took far too long in my tiny little convection microwave I sat down to do my weekly mannequin sketch.  I think Mr. Mannequin was quite happy to join in the celebration. Continue reading

Day 357: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Christmas BaublesI had another relatively busy day today in the lead up to Christmas but in a good way again.  I got to spend some time with friends and family and I’ve finally got all of my Christmas shopping done.  It only took me until December 23rd to get there.  That’s still one full day to spare!  I’ll use that day for some Christmas baking and some paperwork.  That’s what’s on the agenda for tomorrow.  So I decided to go for another really simple sketch and in the spirit of the season I went for some Christmas tree ornaments.  These one actually weren’t life drawings for once.  Christmas baubles really are very simple so I just drew them from memory. Continue reading
