Day 146: A Quick Splotchy Portrait of a Middle Aged Man

Quick Sketchy Portrait of a Middle Aged ManI brought my sketchbook with me to the mall again today.  This was a quick portrait I did of my step-father while we were waiting for my mum to finish up with the optometrist.  Of course I didn’t have my watercolours with me at the mall so I just did a rough outline in pencil and then tried to colour it in when I got home.

I don’t think I got the proportions quite right on this one.  I tried to adjust partway through but ran into some issues with the size of the page and the scale I started out with.  It also turned out splotchy again because of the same technique I’ve been playing with for the last few days which just so happens to involve working with really wet paper and really wet paints.

One of these days I’m going to work up the courage to try something with drier paints and bolder colours and see how that turns out.  I have a feeling it will be a disaster but I suppose I won’t know until I try it.
